‘I’m sorry I couldn’t be of greater use to you,’ Dasha said, stretching as he rose from his seat. But, given Pervik’s insistence that the Wraiths be confirmed to that room, and his death at the hands of the Nomad’s, that’s where I would have to lay my suspicion.’

Amanda nodded, making sure to keep her expression sympathetic. She didn’t like Dasha. He was a self-entitled, self-absorbed fop, and she was quite aware of how that might taint her opinion of him. She wanted to believe that Dasha was innocent of this, but honestly, she wasn’t.

‘And yeh don’t want me to check that yeh weren’t subverted in any way?’ Amanda asked.

‘Miss Page, you know the law’s about hunting around in the minds of others without their permission, and while I am aware that you probably don’t agree with some of the things I do or my methods, I can assure you that I am not a pawn of the Nomads, or the Crux for that matter. So no, you do not have my permission to go poking around inside my head. So, if that’s everything, I would like to spend some time alone, please?’

Amanda glanced at the three aids that were in the room, none of which made any move to leave. She looked back at Dasha and smiled. ‘Very well Dasha,’ she said, knowing very well that he didn’t like her referring to him by his first name. She noted with some satisfaction, Dasha’s nose wrinkle in disgust.

Leaving his private quarters behind, she walked outside to find Astrid in the corridor waiting for her, her blue hair standing in contrast to the black figure-hugging stealth suit she wore.

‘No luck?’ she asked as she started to walk with Amanda long the corridor.

Amanda grimaced. ‘No, none. He’s right, the evidence, such as it is, does point to Assistant Pervik being the contact for the Nomads to be sure, but, it’s all a little too convenient for me.’

‘I take it the timeline has been fogged?’ Astrid asked.

‘Of course. That whole period from the moment the ship stops until my arrival is unreadable.’

‘Typical.’

‘We do know a few things though, not least of which being that Anastasia is alive and active still, and within Foundation space,’ Amanda continued. ‘I just wish I knew what she was up to.’

‘You mean, why was she’s attacking the other Nomads?’ Astrid asked.

‘I’m sure she has a reason, and it’s not as if the Nomads all get along anyway, but, there’s more to this I think.’

‘Mmmm…’ Astrid agreed with her as they wandered back into the main room public room of the ship. It was like some kind of meeting room or gathering area, separate from the bridge with large viewports along the walls giving a great view of the stars outside. Amanda spied the Arkady, her Aetheric craft, hanging in space outside, along with several Wraith ships stations around the Zephyr, the Ormond family ship they were currently stood within.
